OVERVIEW
The WSET Level 3 Award in Wines and Spirits Wine Education Class is designed to give a thorough understanding of the principal wines and spirits of the world and their commercial importance in the world’s market. The wine classes will assist those who are required to make professional evaluations of wines and spirits with regards to their quality and commercial value. The wine classes provide the in-depth product knowledge required to underpin job skills and competencies, for example in product selection in the retail and hospitality sectors.
The course covers:
The key factors in the production of wine: location, grape growing, winemaking, maturation and bottling
How these key factors influence the key characteristics of the principal still, sparkling & fortified wines of the world
How to apply your understanding to explain wine style and quality
How to taste wines, describe their characteristics and evaluate their quality, using the WSET Level 3 Systematic Approach to Tasting Wine® (SAT)
The course costs $1200 and includes the study manuals, the lectures, tasting of over 70 wines, access to online study materials, and the exam. The exam consists of two parts: Theory and Tasting. The Theory portion of the exam includes 50 multiple choice questions as well as 4 multi-part short answer questions. The tasting exam consists of two wines blind, one white and one red. Students who achieve a passing score on both the Theory and Tasting portions of the exam will be awarded a certificate and pin.
A minimum of 48 hours of outside study time is recommended for this course.
