The Level 1, WSET wine education class is for wine consumers looking for challenging wine classes and wanting to know more about the main grape varieties and food and wine matching. It may also be used for students who are looking to begin their first job in wine. The foundation wine education class will introduce them, at a very basic level, to the main styles of wine available, wine storage and service and the matching of food and wine.

The online study option matches students with an educator and provides full access to course readings, as well as additional online quizzes, exam practice exercises, and projects to help students prepare for the final exam. The exam is still administered in person at the Texas Wine School or a satellite location. This is an excellent option for students who are unable to attend class and learners who prefer to work at their own pace.

Upon completing the course students may take the exam at The Texas Wine School or complete the exam online for an additional $35 fee. Students failing the exam may retake it for $75 in-person or $125 online.

WSET recommends a minimum of six guided learning hours to prepare for the exam, all of which are covered within the online course. For more information on course content, please refer to the WSET Level 1 Wines course specification
