Wine Scholar Guild: Italian Wine Scholar

The Italian Wine Scholar™ curriculum is an Italian wine education program designed to provide committed students of wine with the most advanced and comprehensive specialization program on Italy bar none! It was created by native Italian, Maurizio Brioggi, DWS, FWS with the support of the Italian wine DOC/G consortia.The program provides all the tools necessary to successfully master the wines of Italy at a professional level.

The Italian Wine Scholar™ program mirrors the unparalleled level of depth, accuracy, detail and academic rigor offered by the acclaimed French Wine Scholar™ program.

The Italian Wine Scholar program is composed of two separate units, which may be taken in EITHER ORDER:
IWS: Northern Italy
IWS: Central & Southern Italy
Candidates need a composite score of 75% to receive the IWS credential, i.e. the scores from both exams are added together and averaged for final assessment.

Both units of the Italian Wine Scholar Program cover Italian wine law, grape varieties and their organoleptic profiles, viticulture, winemaking, wine industry trends and economics and all DOCs and DOCGs with their regulations, wine styles and specificities. This core body of knowledge is important whether you sell wine, buy wine or teach about wine.

The Texas Wine School is the first independent company to offer Wine Education Classes in Houston for the consumer and the wine industry.

The TWS wants all its students to become confident about their wine choices, whether they’re in a restaurant or a retail store.
